The poem begins with the spider's invitation of the fly. He speaks to the fly to come into its home. He describes his parlour as the prettiest one. He kindles the curiosity of the fly so that she may enter his home. Fortunately she was cautious and refused to get into his home. Now he pretends to be a host and asks her to come and rest in his home. He offers her sheets and bed to rest. This time also she declined his offer very politely. The next weapon that he uses is flattery. He praises the wings and eyes of her and also praises her beauty. He invites her to look at herself in the mirror which is in his parlour. The fly is flattered by the words of the spider and she falls a prey to his flattery.
